The 17th century Fenn Bell Inn stands on the Hoo Peninsular, just a few miles from the cathedral city of Rochester and Chatham Historic Dockyard.
The pub is thought to have been named after one of several bells erected on nearby marshes. In poor weather, these would ring to enable travellers to find a safe way across without getting stuck in the mud.
Today’s visitors can enjoy a selection of real ales along with a traditional menu of home made pies and puddings made with fresh ingredients. In winter the atmosphere is enhanced by two roaring open fires.
Parties, wedding receptions and wakes can all be held here for groups of up to 70 people in the function room. The parish council holds its regular meetings here as well.
Outside, there is a large garden with children’s play area, equipped with a climbing frame and trampoline for the energetic. Close by, the pub boasts a camp and caravan site, which is listed in the Caravan Club’s annual guide.
